Week 5

Day 22 – Monday, July 21, 2003

Today was a very slow day. I do not know if it is because of the heat or what, but I have not been feeling well. I am overly exhausted and feeling a bit weak. Therefore, I was not able to accomplish much today. I was however able to get an understanding of some of the Make Vessels screen. There is a lot going on here, so I really need to meet with Zhenrong in order to really understand what is going on. Tomorrow, I am hoping that I will feel better so that I can try and get as much as possible done.

Day 23 – Tuesday, July 22, 2003

I am still not feeling to well today, but I tried to get a good amount accomplished. I continued to make modifications in order to make the Make Vessels Panel work. I have almost all of the functionality, but am not too clear on what exactly happens when you click on the various buttons. Linda will try and contact Zhenrong to meet with me (since I have not had luck) so that I can move on with the project. Till then I will work on creating some type of documentation for the project, so others who want to work on it will have an easier time than I have. Take a look at the Make Vessels Panel!

Day 24 – Wednesday, July 23, 2003

I spent the day today trying to continue to figure out how Zhenrong’s program works. I did have a break in the afternoon at which time I attended the SIRS meeting. At this meeting we discussed a returning summer student’s project growth (natural language querying). Without contact from her, it is a bit difficult, but slowly I am figuring out things on my own. I understand most of the functionality of the Make Vessels Panel now, but some areas are still unclear. Today I was able to talk to Zhenrong, and we had made a phone appointment for 6:30 p.m. Since I had some questions for her, she wanted to see if she could answer them on the phone instead of having to meet. After a few minutes of me explaining the questions I had, Zhenrong realized that she would be able to answer them until she actually reads some of the code. I suggested we meet in person because it may be easier for her to answer my questions after seeing the program running (I have it running and she does not). However, she decided that we should make another phone appointment for 6:30 p.m. tomorrow. If we are not able to resolve the issues by tomorrow, then hopefully we will be meeting on Sunday.

Day 25 – Thursday, July 24, 2003

Today has been a fairly productive day. Basically, I figured out how to run the program so that it actually creates reconstructs the artery and vein trees in the right lung of the Visible Human Man. Unfortunately, due to a lack of memory, I was not able to run the program using the complete data (this problem will be resolved soon). I was, however, able to test portions of the data. You can view some of these samples here: Samples. Now, all I need to do is get the remainder of my questions answered by Zhenrong, either on the phone right now, or on Sunday. Beginning next week, I will be able to concentrate on testing the program on the other lung, and possibly tubular organs!!!

Day 26 – Friday, July 25, 2003

Well, yesterday Zhenrong and I decided to just meet on Sunday because then we would be more productive. I spent the majority of today going through the program and making a list of questions to ask Zhenrong. I am also discovering new errors when running the program that I need to work on. That’s about it!
